Good times for WhichBingo at the EGR Awards

The WhichBingo team has just about recovered from the celebrations following our win of the EGR Award as Gaming Review Site of the Year. On Wednesday the entire team packed our best dinner suits and party dresses and travelled down to that there London to attend the ceremony.

We had a lovely afternoon in around the shops (and bars) and in the evening prepared to attend the awards. We scrubbed up well dont you think?

We were nominated in two categories at the event and although we did not win the award as Innovative Gaming Site of the Year we were not too downhearted as the celebrations had already begun for the one we did win!

Rufus Hound was host for the evening and was as irreverent as ever.

Like two trains on a collision course on the same stretch of track, the end of the casino day and the 7th place elimination were charging towards each other Tuesday morning at the Jacksonville Poker Room, host of the World Poker Tour’s (WPT) Jacksonville stop.  The goal for Day 3 was to whittle the field from 42 to the final six, but as the hands of the clock advanced past midnight, one problem began to loom: the poker room was to close at 3:30am.  Fortunately, with about an hour and a half to spare, Matt Ezrol was eliminated, setting up today’s six-handed final table.  The top stack, by leaps and bounds, is Massachusetts’ Anthony Ruberto, with 4.5 million chips.

Ruberto is a relative unknown in the poker world, despite solid career earnings of $437,259 on the live tournament circuit.  He has a number of final table appearances and two tournament wins, though most have been in fairly minor tournaments that received little fanfare.  Over half of his winnings came from one tournament, the $4,750 No-Limit Hold’em Fall Poker Open Championship at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, where he placed 2nd for $275,242.  Regardless of how he finishes the final table on Tuesday, it will be his second World Poker Tour cash to go along with one World Series of Poker score.

Also of note is Lisa Hamilton, who is vying to become the first woman to win a World Poker Tour title.  Natalia Nikitina won the WPT National Series Paris earlier this year, but according to the World Poker Tour, the Regional and National caliber events do not qualify as WPT titles.  She is no stranger to winning live poker tournaments, having won the Ladies’ Championship at 2009 World Series of Poker.  She also placed 5th in the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller event.  Going into final table play, Hamilton is in good shape with 1.901 million, behind only Vitor Coelho (2.57 million) and Roberto.

The final table will begin at noon EST on Tuesday as the remaining six players vie for the $325,928 first prize.  Though it will be a rare untelevised World Poker Tour final table, fans can watch a semi-live stream (there will be a half-hour delay), including hole cards, on WPT.com starting at 12:30pm.

The winner, as already mentioned, will receive $325,928, while the runner-up will take home $287,762.  The first player to be eliminated today will win $46,315, still a decent little salary for someone working a “real” job.

The fifth annual Jennifer Harman Celebrity Poker Tournament is set for Saturday, May 21st at the Peppermill Resort Casino. The tournament will benefit the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty To Animals (Nevada SPCA) No-Kill Shelter.

Harmans Celebrity Poker Tournament will be running along side the Nevada State Poker Championship, and is part of the Heartland Poker Tours line up for television in the Fall. All of the money generated by the event will be donated to the Nevada SPCA.

Proceeds from past tournaments have already given the animal sanctuary the ability to extend its community program and to advance the no-kill movement. The facility even expanded to include the Jennifer Harman Wing back in 2008.

The best thing about having a pet is experiencing their unconditional love, began Harman.

French investment business Group Bernard Tapie (GBT) has spoken out recently expressing optimism that a deal could be struck to help save beleaguered online poker room Full Tilt.

However, a lawyer for the business which specialises in the recovery of bankrupted companies, has warned that any deal is contingent on a satisfactory resolution of outstanding issues with the US Department of Justice, with GBT lawyer Behnam Dayanim explaining:

We’re still working with Full Tilt Poker. We have a signed agreement that allows us to do the things we need to do to ensure we’re comfortable. We’re working productively with that company, but any agreement ultimately depends on resolutions with the DoJ. We have to have that process work its way through to completion, but I’m optimistic right now.

At present, the DoJ is pursuing Full Tilt poker for more than $1 billion in damages related to local violations of gambling and money-laundering laws. It is believed Groupe Bernard Tapie is seeking to reach an agreement with the DoJ whereby it accepts to be paid over time with money earned from a fully operational Full Tilt Poker.

In addition, up to $300 million is still owed to Full Tilt customers worldwide and in the event of a deal, Groupe Bernard Tapie has been sounding out various possibile ways of returning the funds without commiting too much of their own money to the deal. These options include a) Full Tilt customers agreeing to invest part of their money in company shares, b) agreeing to a lump sum cashout penalty or c) accepting small cashouts over a period of time.

Elaborating further on the current state of negotiations, lawyer Behnam Dayanim commented:

It’s a process. The process is still going on and hopefully we’ll have some good news to report. I remain optimistic that we’ll be able to reach an outcome that allows for the Tapie group to proceed with the proposed plan. It’s Tapie’s intention to arrange for repayment of players.
